Posted by gsiemens at July 30, 2007 4:33 PM | TrackBackFifteen years ago, I was in a class of language teachers from throughout New York state, where a small group of "downstate" teachers (New York City area) questioned why French was still being offered as a foreign language. Those of us from Upstate where we have a major boarder with Quebec tried to justify the study of French due to the great amount of commerce with French speaking Canada. I guess now that the new border crossing restrictions are going into place, we'll have more pressure to drop French in New York state schools.
