It's too early to gain a sense of the impact of the $100 laptop project (over 5 million of these computers will be in the hands of students in developing countries by the end of 2007). It's a tremendous experiment in the impact of access - to technology, networks, and each other (as students). The design of the device is quite innovative - accounting for the conditions of use...for example, as a low energy device (for areas of poor electrical supply) a hand generator (pull a chord for one minute, get ten minutes of power) can be used to provide power.
