A Review of the Literature on Portfolios and Electronic Portfolios

A Review of the Literature on Portfolios and Electronic Portfolios (.pdf)...after a quick overview of benefits, functions, and successful criteria of portfolios, the report explores their use in teacher education, medicine, and nursing. The second half of the report explores eportfolios (the section on benefits is quite thorough). A good introduction to the subject. I'm starting to wonder if eportfolio development should be an explicit task, or something that is an indirect product of other learning activities (this obviously requires a definition of portfolio types - i.e. the report authors describe three types: learning, credential, and showcase). When I look at my blogs, presentations, articles, podcasts, etc, I would like to think I've created an eportfolio - transparent to anyone using a google or yahoo search. I never intended to create an eportfolio, but, as a result of my learning and online writing, I think I've created a fairly diverse representation (complete with reflection) of my learning and competence.
