Death of "Big Budget"

George Lucas' recent prediction about the death of big budet movies is valid to any industry that spends significant amounts of money to create content. I remember sitting in on "new online course" meetings years ago - the dollars being assigned to move a course online where incredible (for both corporate training and higher education). It wasn't sustainable. Online courses are now being developed for a fraction of the cost of first generation courses. What has changed? Our understanding that content alone doesn't make a great course, the need for socialization in the learning experience, and the fact that informal structures (like the web, blogs, wikis, listservs, discussion forums, search engines, etc.) are often the "first stop" for many learners when trying to learn new concepts. Big, expensive content is still about "us" filling "them" with knowledge.
