Afterslash is a service that collects the "best" (how that's defined is a real challenge) comments from slashdot. I follow slashdot for the comments, not the stories. The best learning is in the dialogue. The volume of comments, however, can be overwhelming (quality of comments needs sometimes filtering as well!). In information overload environments, filtering agents become critical. I don't think afterslash is the best approach (something more like digg.com (which aggregates the effort of the many), but with a broader focus - beyond simply news items). In a sense, the blogs I read are filtering agents as well. I don't have time to follow the field of neuroscience...but a few thorough/informed blogs can help me to gain a sense of what is happening. Trust and reputation take a central place in human filters. (via Smartmobs)
