While on the subject of alternate media/learning formatsWe are the Media focuses on video logs: "We Are The Media is focused on supporting the grassroots media. We are passionate about making media and making it easier for others to make media. We believe that as more people hold the power of the media in their own hands, our experience of the media will become more personal and meaningful. Our goal is to empower people to become their own media source."
I'm a bit unsure of how the notion of educators as technologists will unfold. Blogs succeed because they are simple to use. Anyone can learn the basics, quickly. Video logs add to the complexity. Tools don't really exist that make the video creation process as simple as blogging. From my experience, most new technologies or approaches have a very short adoption window. If it's not easy, it doesn't get used (at least for most people). From what I've seen with vlogs so far, adoption will be hampered by perceived complexity.
