No, Really, this is what we want

No, Really, This is What we Want
Comment: This presentation focuses on a critical element missing in standards development - simplicity. Through the use of RSS (compared to complex, requirement-heavy standards models), individuals/organizations can effectively create and share resources. The last slide of guiding principles supports my previous rant on centralized/decentralized/enterprise-wide, etc:
1. Make things possible, not necessary
2. Create choices
3. Make room for innovation
I think it's important to understand which technologies have been successful over the last decade (and why). The technologies with the greatest impact on how we do things have underlying, simple standards...and are very easy to use: email, instant messaging, blogs. Standard-makers need to reflect on what the end-user needs...from current models, I get the impression the standards being developed are for 5% of the potential market (namely highly technical people), but are being promoted like they are the 100% solution for the end user.
