Social Networks & Learning: Research Seminar

Last year, TEKRI and Athabasca University hosted a week-long research seminar on networks and learning. The event was quite successful. As a result, we are organizing a similar event this year. The seminar will be held in Edmonton from June 20-24 and is open to students and faculty. It’s an opportunity for review of existing and leading research as well as intensive discussion about the roles of social media and networks in education. For more information: on seminar leaders and cost/registration.

For a great example of social media being used in education check out http://www.deforestaction.com.
These young people are using social network to drive a global movement to save rainforests in Borneo. It has become so big the King of Java is now the patron, and a 3D Hollywood movie (the biggest budget reality movie ever) is being made about the work of these young people. Incredible story.

Will any of the material from this seminar be available online? Social media’s role in education is something that interests me but unfortunately Edmonton is too far away for me to attend.

I notice there is a fee for attendance so understand if content is not available, but thought it worth asking :)
