I say this after looking into the number of free online distance education journals and I was surprised. C.H. Olgren lists 39 online open access DE and Tech journals. I am sending this list to Terry, who may have a similar list, but just in case you do not have it, here is what I discovered in my searches http://depd.wisc.edu/html/mags3.htm . I have just listened to the mp3s (thanks for this modality, as I had an eye infection and too much reading was irritating my eye) of all of the entries into the last IRRODL Journal and it is inspirational and meaningful in terms of the variety of articles and in terms of the quality of work. I thinks the mp3s is another reason for the extensive popularity of IRRODL. Imagine ESL students listening to an articulate reader as found on this site! I mention the quality of the articles as I have read recently about criticism in the DE field (from a critic within the field -- sorry can't remember just now who it was) -- about the apparent lack of quantitative research and high caliber qualitative research. It was q bit shocking that qualitative research articles were referred to as not being high quality. This observation is not my experience regarding the quality of the DE articles within IRRODL. In fact, I think these articles are exemplary and I have read a lot of research for years. I could do a review of each, but not on this post.
