ED-MEDIA and changing conferences…

Last year, while attending ED-MEDIA in Vancouver, I lamented about lack of opportunity for participation. This year, we’re trying to add more interactivity to the conference through the use of blogs, wikis, and podcasts. We’ve set up a conference blog and will continue to add interviews and resources as the Vienna event nears. I posted an interview (links to audio file) I conducted with Randy Garrison and Norm Vaughan on blended learning…

I’ve been, and continue to be a strong supporter of the AACE conferences, but unfortunately there is something fundamentally “broken” with the conferences. The culture is old. It took quite a bit of pushing to get the “network lunches” in place and trying to provide a way for students – the next generation of AACE attendees in has “died on the vine” as the student panels have not been successful.

There are quite a number of people there who blog on their own (certainly at SITE and eLearn they do), but EdMedia seems to be a different beast. You might be well done by increasing the time given for SIGS and make virtual round table sessions that make use of the tools that you mention. That way, if people are not able to make (or get into) a SIG or round table room, at least they can participate online.

    Hope Vienna goes well.
