Back to Curatorial Teaching

Leigh Blackall asked me to provide a short presentation to a group of educators in New Zealand on curatorial teaching. The audio, elluminate recording, and slidshare files are available here. I like the approach he uses – 10 – 15 minutes of presentation…the rest of the hour in dialogue. A much more sane way of connecting with others than is found in most presentations.

  1. Hi George, I was a ‘student’ at your Elluminate session in New Zealand. It was really great to hear your ideas. I am just learning about Web 2.0 and online teaching so it was really interesting to think about curatorial teaching. I am not sure I really get it because I think it restricts the teacher interaction with students. However, at this stage in my development as a teacher I welcome the opportunity to think about what I do in different ways. Ki ora, Sarah

  2. Hi Sarah – thanks for your comments. In terms of the concept of curatorial teaching, I was trying to walk the line between “sage” and “guide”. There are times where an expert is required – not hands on directing learners, but rather somewhat behind the scenes…willing to engage, and active when required
