Social network users have ruined their privacy, forever

The real problem with social software sites rests not with predadors (though that is a real issue too), it’s the lack of understanding many users have about what is happening when they post information and connect to other “friends”. We are busy blocking these sites, rather than teaching people how to use them responsibly. Social network users have ruined their privacy, forever: “Once something appears on the Internet, it’s almost impossible to remove. Within minutes, chances are a search engine will crawl it, then that search engine will cache it, so that even if the page changes, the original content will still be there, for a while, at least.”
