Exploring Elearning Reforms for Michigan

Exploring elearning reforms for Michigan (.pdf) – a fairly involved exploration of the current state of elearning. The report author (Tom Watkins) grapples with an issue I’ve dealt with over the last several years: how does/should education change when we have access to new tools? The reality all of us in education are facing: “Michigan cannot lead into the 21st century without casting off the anchors of attitude, archaic laws and public policies and beliefs that bind us to 20th century classroom education models”. I would extend that slightly and say that our current approach to education is actually in conflict with emerging research in how we learn (neurology) and the nature of our learning environments (nebulous, complex, rapidly evolving).
