Projectors soon to meet WiFi

Wireless projectors would be a welcomed addition at RRC. As a laptop program, all of our students/instructors use laptops. All course resources are available online (including testing). While some classes are delivered online (i.e. without scheduled classtime), most are blended. So, when an instructor is finished with a class, he/she unplugs the laptop, packs up and leaves. Another instructor comes in…plugs into the network, the projector…and boots up. Sounds simple, but the process actually takes 5+ minutes. Being completely wireless (network and projector) would be very convenient.

These would be a really welcome addition in the CA/P program, too. A couple of us have put in an order for the HP iPaq 5450 which have built in 802.11b cards. Since the new campus at Princess is going have wireless access throughout, I think I’ll be using this device for many of the tasks I would otherwise be doing with my laptop. It would be great to be able to project a Powerpoint presentation from the PDA, annotate, and move freely around the class during a lecture.

Is it possible to retrofit an existing data projector to be wireless? If so, any idea how much the cost is?

Hey Jody, I’m envious of those who move down to Princess…:)

The company that is promoting the product Margi is currently just releasing their product at trade shows. (there is more info here. Looks like the first projector will be HP…and it doesn’t mention anything about retrofitting. For now, it looks like the first one will be available in fall.
